  • How many composite decking boards will I need?
The easiest way to work out how many composite decking boards you will need is this formula: (Length) x (Width) = (Total) x 2 Example: 5m x 3m = 15sqm x 2 = 30 30 boards would be needed for this area. If you have a more complex design, you can email us across a picture of your design and we will help work out the quantities for you. info@nwcompositedecking.co.uk
  • What is composite decking?
Composite decking is quickly becoming the go-to choice for decking these days, and for good reason. It gives you that genuine wood look and feel, all while sparing you the hassle of regular maintenance that usually comes with traditional timber or wooden decking. So, what's it made of? Well, a composite decking board is a clever mix of 60% wood fibers, 30% high-density polyethylene (HPE), and 10% additives like bonding agents. Think sawdust or wood chips for the wood fibers and recycled materials, including plastic bags from wastelands, for the HPE plastics. It's like decking with an eco-friendly twist! Now, let's talk process. They blend those wood fibers, plastics, and bonding agents, heat them up, and mold them into board lengths. After that, they press a wood grain pattern onto the surface and let it cool. But it doesn't stop there – each board gets a little TLC with brushing and treatment. And voilà! You end up with a wood plastic composite decking board that not only looks and feels like real wood but also saves you from the usual headaches like constant maintenance, warping, splinters, and cracking
  • What is composite decking made from?
Composite decking is crafted from a blend of wood fibers (sawdust or wood chips) and recycled high-density polyethylene (HPE) plastics, all held together with additional bonding agents.
  • What joist spacings should I leave?
The manafacturer's recommended spacings are no more than 300mm, this will prevent any bowing of the boards.
  • Do composite decking boards fade in sunlight?
Yes composite decking boards do fade, but not a lot. They undergo a weathering process, where the colour will fade around 10% during the first few months of sunlight, but they will remain 10% lighter for the rest of its lifespan. Although, fading is less noticable on lighter colours such as the Salt Lake Silver.
  • How long does composite decking last for?
Composite Decking is designed to have a lifespan of roughly 25 years. Compared to traditional timber which is roughly 10-20 years, the benefits of using composite is the minimal up keep it requires. No more painting or staining.
  • Do batch colours differ?
We have one major supplier of our composite products so colours will not differ from batch to batch, although in some rare cases they may be slightly lighter/darker due to the composite being a man made product. Please check the composite once delivered, and raise any issues with ourselves before laying/cutting the boards.
  • What is the best way to clean composite decking?
The best way to clean composite decking is with hot soapy water & a brush or jet wash on a low setting to remove stubbon stains. We wouldnt recommend using any products as this may alter the colour and any abrasives could damage the woodgrain effect. If you chose to use an abrasive or jet wash at higher setting at your own risk, we cannot be held responsible.
  • Does composite decking get hot?
Composite decking like other garden materials will get hot in direct sunlight.
